Critical Analysis of Research Paper

Objectives:

Describe current evidence-based recommendations for assessment and treatment of weight management.
Demonstrate written communication skills via a critical analysis of current research as it is compared to evidence-based recommendations.
Gain experience comparing strengths and weaknesses in obesity research.
Demonstrate professional writing and critical thinking

Instructions:

Identify a current research topic of interest to you that either addresses the efficacy of a leading popular diet or diet approaches for weight management or addresses the efficacy of surgical procedures for weight management.  Choose from one of these two topic areas.

 
Select two current (2014 to present) research articles that address your selected topic. These two articles may have the same or opposite findings in their results and conclusion. Do not use a case study, case series, or meta-analysis/systematic reviews. Case-control, longitudinal, or randomized-controlled trials are appropriate for this paper.
35 Points: Compare and contrast the two articles. Be sure to write a cohesive paper with proper grammar and spelling. Do not simply list A-H below to answer the questions in bullet point fashion. This should read as a cohesive, research paper that is 3-4 pages in length (double-spaced).

For each study you will:

Provide the full article reference (APA style).
Describe the study.

Case-control, longitudinal, or randomized-controlled trial.
Describe study-treatment participants.

Number of participants, gender, ethnicities, etc.

Discuss the intervention and design. (Be sure to include adequate detail about the studies.)
Discuss the outcomes and whether the conclusions appropriate.
Identify both the strengths and weaknesses of the research.
How would you conduct the research differently than the researchers if you were to re-design the study?
How would you conduct the next phase of the research?
