Every research study starts somewhere. This week we will focus on developing the elements that will set the foundation for your final project.
First, you must decide on the following items and then you will write a short introduction essay putting these ideas all together. Your research question may be one of your choice, but it must be based within the field of psychology and it must be something that can easily be measured. You may want to read some journal articles to help you get an idea.
Here are the items we will start with:
Your research question
Your hypothesis
The independent variable
The dependent variable
Writing the Introduction- let’s take all of the pieces from part 1 and put it into the introduction. This is one of the first sections where we need to grab the attention of the reader. This section should include the following elements all written in complete sentences:
An opening sentence that sets the tone for the reader about what you will be covering in the paper.
Your research question
Your hypothesis
The independent variable
The dependent variable
Definitions – these are all of your operational definitions. You will need to define your independent variable(s) and dependent variable(s).
A preview of what you will be covering in the rest of the paper (for now, you can just say that you will be doing an in-depth review of the literature)
