Furthermore, the U.S. federal government, through the Sports Agent Responsibility and Trust Act (SPARTA), has sought to regulate some actions of sports agents. Both the Uniform Athlete Agents Act and SPARTA allow for sports agents to be criminally prosecuted. However, even though these laws exist, stories and allegations surrounding agents providing college athletes with improper benefits continue to persist. Thus, the question becomes, how successful have the Uniform Athlete Agents Act and SPARTA been at regulating the behavior of sports agents?
Through online research, locate an instance of a sports agent who was charged with violating either the Uniform Athlete Agents Act in his or her state and/or SPARTA. Review the allegations against the agent and the case that was brought against him or her.
Submit a 1- to 2-page paper in which you analyze the case you found. Your analysis must contain the following:
An explanation of the allegations against the agent
An explanation of the punishment brought or sought against the agent
An explanation of whether you believe the punishment brought or sought was appropriate and why
An explanation of whether you believe that the Uniform Athlete Agents Act and SPARTA are enough to stop agents from giving college athletes improper benefits and why
