The first part of the Annotated Bibliography is to write a short introduction, 300+ words. The introduction should discuss your larger project, what you are responding to and what directions you are thinking it might take. After this, you will annotated your sources.
Below is a description of what goes into the Annotated Bibliography, and

. The colors below correspond to the colors on this example. Note that your submission should not be color coded.
Bibliographic entry (Brown) – Provide the full citation as would appear on the Works Cited page.
The first paragraph summarizes the source:

Begin by briefly describing the authors organizations credentials in the subject matter (Blue)  his or her knowledge, experience, education, etc. There is no reason for this to be more than one or two sentences long.
For the rest of the paragraph, summarize the source (Green). This involves identifying the sources main arguments or claims and how it makes or supports them.
The first paragraph of each annotation should be 100+ words in length.

The second paragraph analyzes the source:

Analyze the source (Orange). This is sort of like the Rhetorical Analysis on rapid fire. To analyze the source, you should consider the logic employed in the source as well as the cultural logics and assumptions employed therein. To help you do so, you may want to consider responding to several, but not necessarily all of the following questions: what is the cultural history of the discipline and how does the article operate within it? what type of information it is, what is the purpose, and how useful the information is –what kind of book, newspaper, magazine, or website is it? Is it popular or scholarly? Why is it a reliable source? Is it opinion-based or research based? If it is research based, does it cite its sources? Is the information biased? Is it objective? Is the information current? For websites, is the site sponsored by an organization? What is the mission statement or purpose? What other sites are linked to from this site? What other types of sites link to this site? In a search of the sites history, what types of update have been made? (PDF: orange). Remember that you are writing a paragraph wherein you analyze the source not responding to a list of yes or no questions.
At the end and in two or three sentences, explain how you will use the source in your paper (Purple): to demonstrate an example or situation, as support for your argument, as part of your conclusion, as a contrasting point, etc.? Explanations should be specific.
The second paragraph of each annotation should be 120+ words in length.
