The scholarly articles for this annotated bibliography must all be sciences articles from scholarly journals. They must have something to do with your course theme and, if possible, your short story.
So, for example, if your theme is Aging, Death, and Dying, you should go to EBSCO (at our FTCC library homepage) or to Pubmed.gov and use search terms associated with that theme and story to search for related articles.
For example, if you are interested in the narrator’s attempt to terrorize Fortunato as part of his murder of him, you might wish to explore fear of death in terminally-ill patients as your main focus for medical science articles. See?
Combine the overall theme with something specifically related to the story.
You will not use these scientific articles again in any writing this semester: You will not use them when you do your literary analysis of the short story; you will not include them in your Works Cited page for that analysis.
The purpose of this assignment, and of the annotated bibliography for the social sciences, is simply to show you that other disciplines also concern themselves with this theme related to the course and your short story. But their concern and interest reflects the values of their disciplines, not the humanities.
Another tip: One of the requirements for the annotations you have to write for your bibliography is a short biography (1 or 2 sentences) about the first author listed for an article (not all of the authors). This author is the lead author of the article and can be referred to as the lead author in your annotations.
A Google search may lead you to some biographical information about the author, such as the author’s place of employment (usually a college or university) or other achievements/publications. Also, the databases that you use to find the articles (for example, EBSCO and Pubmed) often have links as part of the author’s name to help you find more information about the author. If all you get from the link is a list of other publications by that author, simply compile a list of two other articles or books that the author wrote or co-wrote. That compilation of publications will be enough for a “bio” for the annotations.
Remember: you have to provide a bio only for the first author listed, not all of them.
Hope this helps!
