FINAL PROJECT

Your final
project counts for the final exam!  It is
due to me no later than midnight and is worth 15 points.  Minimum 10 slides.  Due December 8 by midnight, no exceptions.

What do I do
for this project?  Well, here is what I
am expecting…

1)     Choose a source of inspiration to
come with a concept for an original play or musical.  It could be a movie, book, video game, song,
poem, childhood memory, news item, or any idea you think would be totally
amazing to see on the stage. Slide to explain your inspiration.

2)     Give your show a title – this could
be the title of your initial inspiration or a new one you select.

3)     Include a short cast breakdown (name,
age, any physical requirements etc…).  I
have included an example below.  You do
not have to list the number of lines, the important information is the name and
the character description.

Cast of Characters Example

Vanya – 50’s, living in Bucks County.  Resigned to his life, more or less, at least
compared to Sonia.

Sonia – his adopted sister, early 50’s,
living with him in Bucks County. 
Discontent, upset, regretful.

Masha – his sister, 50’s, glamorous and
successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world.

Spike – an aspiring actor, 29, sexy,
self-absorbed, Masha’s new companion.

Nina – lovely, sincere would be actress,
20’s, visiting her aunt and uncle next door. 
Star struck and energetic.

Cassandra – cleaning lady and soothsayer,
any age (30’s-60’s), probably African American.

4)     Write a few paragraphs telling me the
plot of your play or musical.

5)     Whether it is going to be a play or
musical you should identify who would write the script and/or music for your
show.  If it is you, that is fine.  If you want to create a jukebox musical that
is ok too.

6)     What would you do for costumes, set
and lighting?  Images are helpful for
this.  I am not expecting anyone to be an
artist and design these elements themselves, but look around for things that
inspire you that you would like to see in your show.  Explain your choices.

7)     Troubleshoot potential problems!  Identify things that would be challenging to
present on a stage and how you would make them work (or leave them out and come
up with something that would be easier to achieve)

8)     Write a short monologue for one of
your characters.  This could be a great
way for you to highlight a major moment in the story of your play.  Here is a link that should help.  Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance

9)     Opportunities to earn extra credit:

a)     If you have decided to do a jukebox
musical come up with the full score of songs you would include in your show

b)     Cast your show (film or stage
actors…if you really want to use other people that is ok too)
