ARGUMENTATIVE ANALYSIS ESSAY

WHAT TO WRITE/ HOW TO STRUCTURE YOUR Argumentative Analysis Essay based on a given article
 
Introduction (5-6 sentences):
      Hook (1st sentence -a general statement or a question about the topic – 1 or 2 sentences)
      Introduce the Article (1-3 sentences)
                          Trio: The name of the author, title, and the main idea of the article
                          Brief summary (1-2/3 sentences) of what that article is about
      Thesis Statement (open thesis or fully-developed but without reasons)
 
Examples: Open: I agree with Anna Clark that we should keep community word and spirit in all out colleges.
Full- Developed: Although (the opposite argument), actually I agree with Anna Clark that we should keep community word and spirit in all out colleges.
 
Body paragraphs
 2 Body Paragraphs:
1      Supporting Body (6-8/9 sentences)
 
Refer to 1 or 2 of the supporting statements / ideas that the author of the article has and bring those ideas in your essay/ support body paragraph. Quote and have 1 of your personal example referring to that idea.
Example:
Community colleges should provide also services and resources not only to the enrolled students, but also to the community.  As Anna Clark states in her article, In addition to offering credit courses and innovative training programs, these campuses are community nerve centers. It is indeed, important to involve the community For example, on weekends, LAVC would offer events for children in our community, and I .
 
1.     Refute Paragraph/ considering the opposite argument (5-8 sentences)
 
Refer to the opposite argument of the authors main claim. It should be in the
article. Bring a quote about it, and then provide your opinion. Restate that your
argument (and Clarks argument) is better that THAT OPPOSING claim.
 
Conclusion (3-5 sentences)
 
      Loop back/ summarize the main idea of your essay/ of the article
      Restate your thesis: again reclaim that you agree with the author of the article that.
      Provide a suggestion
 
And your essay should be about the given article, should follow the requirements, and MLA format
 
MLA FORMAT:
YOUR Essay should be typed, double spaced, 1margin on all sides, in Times New Roman 12 font
Paper also has a heading: (and the header should have only your last name and page number)
