Assignment:   For this assignment, you complete a brief, simple program evaluation of one of the local interventions which is addressing the social problem/issue you have chosen to address in this course.

Focus on one local (in your town, city or state) organization which works to address the issue you have been researching during this course.  Research what the organization is doing to deal with your social issue,  Write a written evaluation report including the following four sections and address the following questions: Goals and OutcomesWhat are the main goals of this organization’s program? (For example, a anti-bullying program may seek to teach students how to recognize, report, and refuse bullying, and how to become an effective bystander. A parenting program may have goals to reduce risk factors by teaching positive parenting skills). Who is the program aiming to help? (Target groups—you may identify these by demographic specifics such as age, SES, race; developmental characteristics such as students, high schoolers, senior citizens, single parents) What is the program’s proposed outcomes?

Program processes—What does the program actually do? What services or activities, training, education, etc. is provided? When and for how long? What other resources are offered?

What impact is the program actually having?What information does the organization have about the impact they are having on the desired population? (You may need to call to obtain this information or you may find it in their annual report online). Is there any statistical information available to demonstrate impact?

Is the program meeting their goals?What information do you have to suggest this is or is not the case? From what you have learned about this issue and the characteristics of your community, the populations impacted, and the ecological factors involved, what explanations might you develop to explain why the program is or is not being effective?

Instructions: Length: 950-1000 double-spaced, excluding the cover page and reference pages, formatted in APA style. Cover Page Containing: Title of Paper, Your Name, Course Number and Name, Professor’s Name and Date. Introductory Paragraph: setting forth a brief summary of the organization and a clear statement of your thesis regarding the effectiveness of this program. Conclusion: a concise statement that reaffirms your thesis. References: At least 3 references must be cited throughout this paper, one must be directly from the organization.  Documentation: All sources must be documented on a separate reference page, using APA format.
