I added the instructions per my instructor for this class. Please fix it to assure it’s good enough for her. I ADDED SOMENOTES TO THE BOTTOM OF THE ESSAY , PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ THOSE.
– Use present tense when discussing any written or visual text. Example: After seeing the previews for Scream 4, anyone who has failed to watch films 1-3 automatically knows Gale, Dewey, and Sidney survive all three films. The only thing suspenseful is seeing which sideline characters will die first and what crazy motivation serves as the latest killers excuse. The text will *always* do what you say its doing (provided your idea isnt off-base), so use present tense.
– This essays argument should be your interpretation of a movie supported by evidence from that movie. In addition, you should use 2-3 film reviews, pieces of film criticism, and/or other relevant academic secondary sources to help support your ideas. This means your paper must have citations (in-text and on the Works Cited page) for the movie youre analyzing and the 2-3 film reviews, pieces of film criticism, and/or other relevant academic secondary sources.
– Write an introduction that introduces the movie and the essays focus. The intro should end with a clear, insightful, argumentative thesis.
– Write at least three body paragraphs that support your thesis.
– Have a topic sentence at the beginning of each body paragraph. This sentence should clearly relate to (and support) your thesis, avoiding mere plot summary. The body of the paragraph should focus solely on the mini-argument listed in the topic sentence. A possible topic sentence for an essay about The 40-Year-Old Virgins message about true love might claim this: Throughout the film, it becomes increasingly apparent that the audience is intended to see Trish as Andys soul mate.
– Include and thoroughly discuss textual evidence (quotes, visual descriptions, etc.). Dont expect a quote or a description to speak for itself. It is your job to provide quotes/descriptions as evidence/proof that your critical interpretation is reasonable).
– The biggest danger in creating an analysis paper is to summarize too much, so you will want to keep plot summary to a minimum. Dont go overboard with summary. You need to give your reader enough context to make sense of what you are saying, but the paper should be analyzing/evaluating the textnot just retelling it.
– Write a conclusion that wraps up the argument in a satisfying manner. Dont forget: all vital, brand-new support for the thesis belongs in the papers bodynot the conclusion.
Avoid all major and minor errors as well as the use of words such as I, we, you, and any slang or contractions; also avoid phrases such as In Conclusion, this paper will, or numbering your points. Its time to be academic.
