Before you start this discussion please watch the following three videos and take them into account in your discussions.
Discussion forum # 3 The Pros and Cons of Predictive Policing. You are required to answer the multi-part question posed below and reply to at least three (3) of your classmates answers and/or replies for a total of four postings and you must spread your answers over the life of the discussion posting on at least three different days.
As I monitor the posting times and dates with Moodle, posting all on one day will result in a failing grade. Because this is an online class we have the luxury of not attending the classroom setting so the discussion forums act as a way of maintaining contact as a class and fitting the description of attendance. Your expected to follow along the discussion for the time required, generally three weeks. After your initial posting, you must reply in a dialogue form to the thoughts and opinions of other students throughout the form posting. Part of the learning process is reading and intelligently responding to the other students.
Discussion ForumThis discussion forum is based on the textbook, your research and viewing of the three weblink videos in this weeks activities describing predictive policing. The Albany New York Police Department utilizes the methods of predictive policing and the following true-life scenarios occurred during my tenure as a police captain in Albany New York as I utilized predictive policing methods to deploy the police officers under my command.1. Discussion Part one A woman from the Pine Bush middle income area approached me at a public meeting and complained that she never saw a police officer even though the mayor had promised the citizens of Albany that there would be community policing. She was correct, especially in the evening hours, because my police officers were needed to answer the high volume of calls and Arbor Hill and the South end. Discuss with me and the class what would you tell this woman who pays taxes and expects community policing. How would you explain to this woman and her neighbors that I was using predictive policing methods to deploy the police officers?
2. Discussion Part two At another public meeting in Arbor Hill a man approached me to complain that every time he turned around there were police officers driving by his neighborhood and that everywhere he turned there was an oppressive police presence. He clearly felt he was singled out for police overzealousness because he was living in a minority community. Discuss with me and the class why theres so many police officers in this mans neighborhood seemingly targeting and harassing his neighbors. How would you explain to this man and his neighbors that I was using predictive policing methods to deploy the police officers? Is this gentleman making the correct assumption calling this an Excessive Police Presence?
Your discussion grade for all forums will be based on the following criteria:Have the module deadlines been met:

Keep on the topic!4. Do the responses include facts from a variety of sources (textbook, outside resources, your own experience)?5. Were the responses free from distracting spelling/grammar errors? Use the same writing style you would use within a professional environment.6. the following responses are not considered “high quality”:7. Short responses such as “I agree”, “good question” or “good answer”.8. Any response that is just an opinion, or is unsubstantiated (unsupported).9. If you agree or disagree with what h a posting then express why you take your position by supporting your statement with thoughts from the readings or by bringing in a related example or personal experience.10.
