Pick one of the 5 concerts to review and then write an essay following these instructions (I don’t think you’ll have to watch the whole concert, just enough to fulfill the essay requirements)
Specific Instructions for Your Report
Reports must use proper grammar and spelling. You should observe and include the following information in your report:
1st paragraph
Information about the performance itself including:
Date
Location
Time
Name and type of performing group (choir, woodwind quintet, band, etc.).
2nd paragraph
Information about the concert environment (2nd paragraph):
What is your opinion of the performers
Attire and behavior of the performers and audience
Attire and behavior of the audience
Voices and/or instruments used
The layout of the concert hall (stage in relation to audience)
3rd paragraph
Information about the music performed: You should include-
The title (including any movements) of each selection performed with-
The composers name and birth/death year (This information is usually included in the program for the event. If it is not you should look it up).
Based on the composers birthdate and what you have learned about musical style you should make an educated guess about what style period the composition reflects. Style periods = Medieval 1150-1400; Renaissance 1400-1600; Baroque 1600-1750; Classical 1750-1830; Romantic 1830-1920; Contemporary 1920 to present. Keep in mind the composition date does not necessarily reflect the style period the selection represents especially if it was composed after 1900.
4th paragraph
Discuss the selection on the concert you liked the most. Be sure to address each question listed below:
What effect did the composition have on you? How did it make you feel?
How does the composition express aspects of the human condition? Does the music suggest a philosophy for living?
What do you think the composer was trying to represent when writing this composition?
Discuss the compositions creative quality what makes this composition a valuable work of art?
You MUST incorporate how the composer used musical elements (at least four to include melody, harmony, texture, rhythm, tempo, meter, style, dynamics, timbre, instrumentation, form, etc.) in your answer to each of the questions above. It is not enough to mention the element but the element should be used in an appropriate manner. For example, it is not enough to say the selection was uninteresting or the rhythm was boring. You must go one step further with your response to demonstrate your understanding of the musical element. For example, I found the piece monotonous because the composer used the same repeated rhythmic pattern.
5th paragraph
Discuss the selection on the concert you liked the least. Be sure to address each question listed below (5th paragraph):
What effect did the composition have on you? How did it make you feel?
How does the composition express aspects of the human condition? Does the music suggest a philosophy for living?
What do you think the composer was trying to represent when writing this composition?
Discuss the compositions creative quality what makes this composition a valuable work of art (OR was it something about the crafting of the piece that caused you to select it as your least favorite)?

It is not enough to mention the element but the element should be used in an appropriate manner. For example, it is not enough to say the selection was uninteresting or the rhythm was boring. For example, I found the piece monotonous because the composer used the same repeated rhythmic pattern.
6th paragraph
Finally, you must end your report with a conclusion that expresses your overall general reaction to the concert. Your conclusion should include a discussion about how music in this concert differs from a popular music concert you might attend. You should also feel free to take some liberty to interject your opinion. Think of your conclusion as a conversation with a friend about the performance. Were you glad you attended this concert? Would you attend another concert by this group? Would you encourage others to attend? What was your overall impression of the evening? What was your favorite part of the concert? What would have made the concert more enjoyable? Did anything strange happen? Include your own reflections on the experience but be sure they are congruent with other statements you have made earlier in the report and are supported by your observations.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Any ideas presented in your paper that are not your own should be cited on a separate reference page located at the end of the pap
