community policing

Building relationships, problem solving and helping the community are key components of community policing.  Partnerships, crime prevention, trust, engagement, transparency, homeland security and strategic planning are all included in it.
 
With so many people on social media, it gives law enforcement agencies the opportunity to leverage this technology to communicate and engage differently and more effectively with the community.
 
For this project, you are to put yourself in the role of a made-up police department called Patriot PD.  You are the departments social media expert.  Use your creativity and the community policing concepts (from above and throughout the semester) in order to create mock social media posts to the community addressing the below items.  Social media posts are short, creative, clear, concise and have purpose. 
 

Patriot PD is short staffed and has an academy session coming up.  Applications have been down, and the department hasnt been able to fill the seats.

Due to covid, traffic on the roadways is unusually light.  Strangely, reckless driving, crashes and DWIs are still occurring on a regular basis. 

Your police station is having an open house to invite the community in for a tour and town hall style meeting.

Your department just hired a new crime analyst for the first time.

With tax season approaching, increased online shopping and covid-19 going on, the opportunity for fraud goes up.

Your department is getting ready to purchase body worn cameras.

October is crime prevention month.  Next year, the department is focusing on crime prevention through environmental design.

The Starbucks on the campus of GMU reached out and offered to host a coffee with a cop event on the last day of classes.

 
Please create social media posts for all 8 of these items and submit via blackboard. Again, be creative.  You can use text, pics, hashtags, whatever you feel would increase the relationship between Patriot PD and the community.
