Conceptual Statement for Practice-Based Inquiry: Linking Philosophy & Theory to a Practice Idea

Content (cite reading
sources for each Section)  

Section 1.  (8 points) Refine a description of your
philosophy of nursing practice from your first Essay by doing the following:

            Apply
and cite sources of ideas from any of the philosophical views (Ism or
nursing worldviews) AND a theory from any team presentation to describe
these 3 metaparadigm concepts more precisely – by referring to a specific
area of practice (primary care):  

1.      
human-environment process

2.      
health

3.      
nursing practice

Section 2. (4 points) Briefly
(maximum of 100 words) discuss an important nursing outcome or health
outcome from your specialty focus, that you think is relevant to nursing
practice today. Cite literature sources
to support why it is relevant to practice.  

Section 3. (13 points) Apply two theoretical thinking
strategies to create a conceptual statement for inquiry into the nursing
outcome or health outcome discussed in Section 2.  Refer to Pam’s Module
4 Notes for the theoretical thinking strategies.  Create a conceptual statement that proposes
and defends a logical relationship between two concepts – some health or
nursing outcome Y and a variable/concept X that you think could
promote the outcome Y.  This statement is
made after you engage in some theoretical thinking and reading to synthesize
your ideas.  Here are the three required parts
of your Conceptual Statement:

State a sentence that links Concept X to some
desired nursing/patient outcome Y, e.g.  “There is an association between X and Y.“

Defend why you think that concept X
can facilitate outcome concept Y (cite supporting sources.)   4 points

Describe the two theoretical
thinking strategies you used for Nos. 1 and 2.  Cite the reading source (Pam’s Notes, articles, etc.) for strategies.   7 points
