Crisis Film Analysis

Description
This assignment is designed to allow students studying crisis management to apply concepts to a real-
life crisis. For this paper, you will need to watch the movie
Deepwater Horizon
. The movie was made
in 2016 and stars Mark Wahlberg. Industry analysts say the movie is remarkably accurate to the actual
crisis. The movie is available to rent for $3.99 on YouTube, Google Play Movies, Apple TV, and
Amazon Prime.

After watching the film, you should apply concepts from the textbook to explain the crisis. You could
approach the analysis in one of two different formats. 

The first option would be to give a 2 page plot
summary and then use the rest of the paper to select and discuss topical areas.

 The second option is to
explain the movie chronologically and work in topical areas along the way. 
Some of the topical areas
from the book you could include, but are not limited to, are:
Any crisis models (e.g., Fink, Mitroff, Three-Stage Model)
Importance of crisis management (e.g., value of reputations, negligent failure to plan, employer
duty of care, etc.)

-Mitigation
-Red flags
-Crisis types
-Mass notification system
-Crisis dimensions
While you will be expected to use the Coombs (2019) book (Coombs, W. T. (2019). Ongoing crisis communication: Planning, managing, and responding (5th ed.). Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage Publications.  as your primary resource, you are also
expected to include 3-5 additional resources, although these do not have to be scholarly journal articles.
These could include books, magazines, and newspaper articles about the Deepwater Horizon crisis event.

Format
One inch margins should be used for all text in your assignment. Times/Times New Roman should be used throughout the document. Page numbers should be placed in the upper right hand corner of each page. The analysis should be double-spaced. Any referencing should be done in APA style
documentation. The analysis section should be 6-8 pages in length. You should also include a list of
references used in your analysis. Your assignment will be graded on the following criteria: (a) variety
and application of theories, concepts and authors discussed in class readings; (b) quality and flow of
analysis; (c) use of APA style; (d) breadth and depth of analysis; (e) adherence to format; and (f)
spelling and grammar.
