Critical Issues in Higher Learning, Part 1You must submit a Critical Issues Project for grading by your professor as a requirement of this course. This Critical Issues Project will count for 21% of your grade in this course.

Choose a topic that is of key concern in higher education today (i.e., poor preparation of students for college level work, changing faculty roles, changing ethnicity and social status of students, increasing economic burden of education, meeting the needs of non-traditional students, the impact of online learning, etc.). This topic will form the basis for a final project that will be broken into three parts for the course. Each part is worth 100 points and will account for 7% of your total grade. Each part should be written using APA, 5 pages in length and contain 5 peer-reviewed references on evidence-based educational practices.

1. What is the scope of the critical issue?

2. What is the historical background to the present status?

3. Why is this issue of importance to policy makers, college administrators, faculty, students, and society in general?

4. What has other colleges, associations, etc., done to address this issue? Cite evidence based educational literature.

5. What stance have other organizations taken on this issue? Would these organizations be allies or adversaries? Why?

2. What team would you put together and why? What would be the roles of the various stakeholders within and outside of the institution?

3. Outline the potential strategies to address these issues and the pros and cons of these strategies within your chosen institution.

4. Detail the process for the debate of strategies and the development of consensus.

5. How does the faculty fit into the overall and specific strategies?

· Why are these outcomes important to the leadership of the institution?

· How does this strategy relate to the accreditation process?

· What are the key cost-effectiveness measures?

· What is the role of the leadership of the institution and the governing board?
