Food Safety: A Global Issue

Food safety is more than a personal, local, state, or national issue. We have long integrated our food supplies from all over the world creating a food chain distribution which has allowed us to enjoy mass variety of foods at our fingertips. We can pick just about anything at the grocery stores or online with options to pick up at the store or to be delivered at your doorsteps. However, we may not always think of the people and process that it takes to have these items available, nor if these items are contaminated. 
In the last hundred years, many organizations have been created to create food safety guidelines and regulations. They have worked with their local governments and globally in creating a more cohesive food safety system. Despite their progress, we continue to have food safety issues as we evolve and emerge with new technologies.
It is amazing the amount of people who still get foodborne illnesses yearly and the amount who die yearly from these foodborne illnesses. We must continue to work together in educating on food safety globally, not just in homes but in the entire food chain system.
