We also get a glimpse into how the global organization of commodity production, distribution and consumption affects these different societies, their workers, and the environment.
Each commodity entails a complex of social relations that span the globe; however, we tend to see products as simple objective things, without considering all of the social relationships and organization that go into making them. The classical sociologist, Karl Marx, called this obscuring of the social aspects of products “the fetishism of commodities”. Your task in this essay is to lift the veil, to defetishize commodities, to reveal how the goods we consume consist of entire social worlds.
Your assignment is to write an essay that describes how commodity production is organized in a globalized economy and considers related social and environmental affects. You will want to address the following questions:

How are commodities produced, distributed and consumed under globalization? Why do these arrangements exist?
What political and economic structures inhibit or facilitate the production and distribution of commodities?
How are different social groups in different countries affected by these arrangements?
What are the social, economic and environmental consequences of the global production, distribution and consumption of commodities?

Use ideas from the reading and the videos to support your claims. The essay should run around 600 to 900 words.
