Film study-Barthes

The topic is: Barthes, denotation/connotation, Metz, language system

This essay should not be too specific, cause the specific question does not release yet, and I need to revise this paper after I recieved the specific question. What you need to write is the introduction of Barthes’  denotation/connotation, Metz, and language system, and explain how these theories applied to the film,  La Jetée. Two to three citations from the relative readings are needed.

Your answer to that question should be expressed in a formal essay, complete with a thesis statement. You may use films from the course syllabus to illustrate concepts, as it can often help make ideas clearer to have a concrete example to reference when explaining theories. As always, you are cautioned to not be over-reliant on analysis at the expense of theory; this is an exercise in which you prove that you understand the theory, can engage with it, and can see evidence of its workings in film. To bolster your argument, your essay should make general reference to appropriate course readings that deal with your topic. It’s recommended that you find two or three appropriate citations from the theorist in question (or any other thinker who has helped you understand the ideas) and bookmark them so that you can cite and engage with them in the essay you ultimately write. Be aware that any citations must conform to the rules of academic honesty. While you don’t need to waste time preparing a beautiful works cited list, direct citations and paraphrases must at least be noted or signposted in some way.  

All exams will be run through Turnitin to check for plagiarism and any plagiarized question will automatically be awarded a zero.
