Read the following scenario.
You are a Captain for the fire department, assigned to Truck 1. One of your crewmembers, Firefighter Sanders, asks you for a shift off work for vacation for the following Saturday. You have to deny his request because there is already the maximum number of people on vacation that day and minimum staffing levels will not allow it. Firefighter Sanders acknowledges your denial but does not seem very happy about the denial. Later that shift, you overhear Firefighter Sanders on his cell phone trying to get some other personnel to work for him on a trade of time for that Saturday. It seems as if Firefighter Sanders had no luck getting someone to work a trade of time because he does not report the trade to you as outlined in the policies.
On Saturday, Firefighter Sanders calls in on sick leave, saying that he had a bad cold. You question his sick status but go on about your shift. Later on in the evening of the shift, you browse through Facebook and see that Firefighter Sanders has posted comments about a wonderful day he had with his family at a family reunion out of town. It appears to you, as Firefighter Sanders direct supervisor, that he has falsified his sick leave status for the sake of enjoying a day off work when other leave options fell through the cracks. What do you do?
Write a 7001,050-word paper defining the difference between ethics and morality, the ethical issues in place in this scenario, and three common philosophical concepts of ethics you can use to approach this situation.

Define the difference between ethics and morality.
Describe the ethical issues occurring in this situation. What issues affect you, as Firefighter Sanders supervising officer?
As Firefighter Sanders supervising officer, how would you proceed? What common philosophical concepts of ethics can you use to approach this situation?
Does Firefighter Sanders have an obligation to conduct himself any more or less ethical than anyone else in the community who may occasionally fake illness when not actually being ill? Why or why not?
Should Firefighter Sanders face disciplinary action from the department for actions you may not be able to prove? Why or why not?
