History Document Analysis

 Listed below are primary documents related to some of the main topics in chapter 17. Before each set of documents is a brief explanation of the readings followed by several questions. DO NOT WRITE ON ONE QUESTION FROM EACH SET OF DOCUMENTS! Write on one question from one set of documents, and follow this format:
Type in the question you are answering above your response, clearly state your position and 2-3 of the main points you intend to discuss in the first paragraph. In the following paragraphs cite facts from the documents to support your position and explain how/why these facts support your position. Reference the documents, relevant videos and the text if applicable within your essay in parenthesis after the passage it references. The last paragraph, your conclusion, should  sum up your main points/facts and explain how/why they support your position. The length requirement is 1 to 1 1/2 pages single-spaced. In 1893 historian Frederick Jackson Turner presented his Frontier Thesis at the American Historical Association in Chicago during the World Columbian Exposition. Within his paper Turner drew many comparisons between the eastern states and the American West. At the conclusion of the Indian Wars , Native Americans were placed on reservations. As part of the Americanization process Native American children were sent to boarding schools that were far from the reservation and their families. The following document contains the account of Luther Standing Bear; experience at a boarding school.
