India gained independence from the British Raj in 1947, and it led to the creation of 2 independent nations, India and Pakistan. The majority reason for this divide was based on ethnicity and religion. It started when the British came to India in the late 1750s and slowly gained control of the entire Indian subcontinent. The British Raj was harsh and quite deadly for the people of India. The British also played a major role in the partition of what is now India and Pakistan. The first time they tried to divide the state of Bengal along religious lines in around 1905. This led to the formation of the Hindu-dominated Indian National Congress (INC) and the Muslim League, which was formed in opposition to the INC. The 2 parties were together in the ‘Quit India’ movement against the British ruling government, but once the British left the 2 nations were against each other. The unrest between the 2 religious communities kept growing under the British Raj long before the partition. The partition has affected and still affects a lot of people from both nations.This essay would have a brief history of the beginning of the partition and the history of the relations between the Hindu and Muslim communities.
