Global Issues Project

Objective:  To have studentsanalyze a global issue by describing the details, comparing perspectives, determiningrealistic solutions, and supporting their thoughts about the issue.
Part I:  Choose an issue: Each individual willchoose a current global issuefrom the following list.  Some examplesare below:    I PICKED:

Part II:Presentation:
 
1. An overview of the problem/issue
            What is theproblem? Where does it exist? When did it begin? What people or groups aredirectly             involved? Specificnames, dates, locations are needed.
2. Different perspectives (views) about theproblem
            What are thecauses of the problem?  Does everyone seeit as a problem? Historical sources must be             usedto examine the facts and opinions about the problem.
3. Possible existing solutions
            How have experts/ others associated with the issue suggested fixing the problem? What makes the            suggestions different? Basedon the background of this issue, what do you predict will happen in the             future?
4. Barriers to existing solutions
            What human,environmental, and or geographical barriers stand in the way of fixing theproblem? Based on your research, whichgroup has the stronger case?
5. Ways to address the barriers
            Given what youhave learned, what do you think would be the best solution to the problem?
 
The presentation must contain a Works Cited page containing a minimumof 3 sources of which are books / reputable articles.  In order for you to cite the source, thesource must be referenced in your presentation slide.
The presentations must be between 3-5 minutes.  Thepresentation will be conducted orally, via video recording, with a slideshow/digital presentation.

When a site is used as a source of information, the sourcemust be acknowledged according to the MLAdocumentation standards  Any additionalsites or other sources of information used must be documented (for example-interviews, newspapers, magazines, resource books).  Every source that you use must have its owncitation.  For example, if you used abook and two websites as sources for collecting your data, then you will have atotal of three sources listed on your works cited page.  Use MLAformat for citing your sources.  www.citationmachine.com  isa fantastic and easy tool that assists you in creating a citation for thesources you use.
 
Plagiarism:  Not citing thesources you used or directly copying and pasting information will result in azero.  It is a serious offense to pretendothers ideas are your own.
