is having panic attacks. Suzanne has two children, works full-time, and is
attending community college. Her marriage is rocky. Economically, she cannot
back off from work, and her dream is to finish her degree. She comes to Juan
pleading for help, and noting that

Juan is supervised by Carla. One of Juans clients, Suzanne,
is having panic attacks. Suzanne has two children, works full-time, and is
attending community college. Her marriage is rocky. Economically, she cannot
back off from work, and her dream is to finish her degree. She comes to Juan
pleading for help, and noting that throughout the day she is having panic
attacks and at night she has difficulty sleeping. She is worried about being
able to tend to her children and her studies because of her state of mind. A
psychiatric consult and subsequent medication have resulted in little relief.
She looks at Juan and says, Please, youve got to help mewhat should I do?
Juan is stymied, and at his first opportunity, discusses Suzannes situation
with Carla. Juan notes to Carla, You know, since Ive been working with
Suzanne I am filled with anxiety. I feel inadequate because I cant find a
solution for her. I am thinking about her situation all the time, cannot stop
obsessing about it, and am having trouble sleeping because I am worrying about
her. Its even affecting my relationship with my partner.

1. Ensuring all stakeholders are involved: Describe all of
the stakeholders and explain how you would get them together. 2. Collaborating
with community members: Describe your collaboration style as you attempt to
work with the various stakeholders. 3. Respecting community members: Explain
how you would show respect to the various stakeholders. Are there some stakeholders
whom you would have more difficulty respecting? Explain why and state how that
can impact your work with the community. 4. Accurately defining your problem:
Note how you would define the problem(s) in the system (the community). 5.
Jointly developing strategies for change: Explain how you would develop a
collaborative working relationship with all of the stakeholders. Which
counseling skills do you think might come in handy? 6. Implementing change
strategies: How would you implement your change strategies? Who would be
involved in implementing these strategies? 7. Assessing the effectiveness of
your change strategies: Which techniques would you use to evaluate the
effectiveness of your change strategies? 8. Recycling if necessary and staying
committed: How would you know if recycling is necessary?
