This must be completed before you can move on to writing your policy. Make sure you complete the part two of this assignment on locating and producing an annotated bibliography for two sources for your policy. See the resources I have provided this week.
I am asking individuals to narrow their focus and then begin expanding on the brief problem statement using the CDC article from earlier in the semester, I have copied the relevant highlights for you here.  Ultimately, your problem statement will be about a paragraph in length and will cover (according to the CDC reading) “who is affected,” “how big is the problem,” “what contributes to the problem,” and “when and where the problem is most likely to occur.”  This problem identification is your FINAL POLICY topic choice, choose wisely. Again, you may stick with your midterm topic, know that I will expect perfection on any sections that had been submitted, including any corrections I made on those. This should really matter to you. Next week you will be discussing your policy with Nick Zaiac our policy consultant in discussion. So, this must be  

an annotation or summary of a single source you have found in support of your problem statement – Use the 3 bullet points in the “Owl at Purdue” resource on annotated bibliographies to develop your annotation.  You will need to create 5 annotations total for the project and each will need to be thoroughly developed incorporating a summary of the source, an assessment of the source, and a reflection on how it is informing your final memo. You must also find a source that is not supportive to your stance, and document that in the same manner. 
a reference entry for the source you have selected, using APA citation guidelines, must be included in your final policy paper – There are a host of resources in the Hartness Library.  
Your problem statement includes:

Who is affected?
How big the problem is?
What contributes to the problem?
When and where the problem is most likely to occur

You must frame the problem in a way that helps illuminate possible policy solutions.
I have placed a word document with the relevant CDC readings from earlier in the semester if you need additional guidance. This one paragraph will set the tone for your written policy at the end of the semester, please take your time with this.
