Write a 2 to 4-page literature review (due at the end of Module 3) on the topic you chose and submitted in Module 1. Page counts exclude title pages and reference lists. To achieve the broad scope necessary for this project, include 5 to 7 scholarly, peer-reviewed sources related to your research topic.

Literature Review Guidelines

A well-written literature review is broad in scope and illustrates the extent to which you can synthesize the current research related to your topic. Toward this end, youll need to search the databases in the Excelsior College Library to find peer-reviewed articles and research studies published in academic journals. If you need assistance searching the academic databases, contact an Excelsior Librarian. You may find select research reports from some government agencies (.gov) or institutions (.edu or possibly .org); these may be used in addition to the required scholarly sources. For any source that is not peer-reviewed, consider potential bias before using.
Do not include information found in popular sources, commercial websites, or any site with an author who is unknown or whose credibility cannot be determined. To evaluate the quality of potential sources, use the  [PDF file size 243 KB]. Remember that you are writing for a scholarly audience; consequently, the quality and scope of sources used will affect your own credibility as a scholar. Work carefully!
Writing a literature review requires you to think and read critically to recognize diverse arguments and themes. You need to analyze and synthesize findings from pertinent current scholarly research and practices. Literature reviews do not advocate for or against a particular position, and do not reflect personal opinions, beliefs, or values. When searching for journal articles related to your topic, draw upon a diverse collection of academic sources.
Keep in mind that a literature review is not an Annotated Bibliography. Please review the tutorials abbove to gain an appreciation of how to write a literature review. Remember, all papers will be in APA format. Since the literature review is time consuming, you will have two weeks to conduct your literature review (Week 2 and 3). However, do not wait to the last minute since a literature review will take extensive research and work to formulate your paper.

Note: Every step of the project will include the three essential elements of a paper (introduction, with a working thesis; body of paper, with evidence to support your thesis: and a conclusion, with the take away of your research). However, your final paper will only have one introduction and one conclusion. All other introductions and conclusions in each step of the research will be edited to become transition paragraphs.
