Research Paper Assignment Description

Introduction
In Part 1 of our course, we looked at different aspects of writing and research. In Part 2,  we practised the writing process for a research essay on the topic of rehabilitation versus punishment in prisons, writing the introduction, main body paragraphs, and conclusion. By writing multiple drafts of the essay and with feedback in the areas of Content, Style and Language, and Sentence-level accuracy, you have now written a complete academic research essay in the discipline of criminology. 
Topics and Guidelines 
In Part 3, you are invited to reflect on your learning and writingas well as your  writing goals for the remainder of the courseas we begin the Research Paper assignment on one of the other topics we have been reading about:
       Multilingual students and academic writing (Morton et al, 2015; Marshall et al, 2012)
       Homeopathy (Stolberg, 2006)
       Self-driving cars (Richards & Stedman, 2016; Fung, 2016)
       Plagiarism in the music industry (Ugwu, 2015)  
       Fair trade (Suranovic, 2015; Hartford, 2015)
       Slow food (Viassone & Grimmer, 2015; Page, 2012)
       International business leadership (Ma & Tsui, 2015; Xi, 2016; Kim & Moon, 2015; Braun & Knipfer, 2015Kamoche et al, 2015; Peus et al, 2015)
Choose one of the topics above and determine a specific focus and type of essay (e.g., argument, comparative, problem-solution, cause and effect, or a combination of these essay types) you wish to write. The essay should be 700-1,000 words in length and contain accurate in-text citations and a complete list of references following APA or MLA citation style. As necessary, refer back to the seven stages of the writing process (Chapter 1) and the ten stages of the research process (Chapter 2). 
Your research essay must include at least one citation from the readings in our textbook and at least two more to a maximum of six total. Be sure to evaluate the reliability of your sources before including them in your paper. 
Qualities of a Good Research Paper 
The main goal of a research paper is to investigate a particular issue and provide new, original  perspectives or solutions. The writer uses their own original research and/or evaluation of others’ research to present a unique, sound, and convincing argument, while demonstrating the important principle of academic integrity in academic research and writing.    
Writing Process and Suggested Timeline 
Although the final version of a research paper should be well-organized, logical, and clear, the path to writing one is not a straight line. As we have seen, it involves research, critical thinking, source evaluation, organization, and writing. These stages are not linear; instead, the writer weaves back and forth, and the paper’s focus and argument grows and changes throughout the process. Good writers understand research writing as a recursive process, and so they begin early and leave time to revise, edit, and proofread their work before submitting it.
