New Genre Revision

This project will have two parts:

The re-vison of your research paper. Your intended audience for this part will be an audience of your choice and the content will be based on the research you did for your research paper. This part could take a variety of forms, depending on your audience and purpose.
The Author’s Analysis. Your intended audience for this part will be me, your professor. Your purpose will be to demonstrate your ability as an author to envision a rhetorical situation and develop strategies to adjust your writing for this rhetorical situation.

Part 1
You will build this part using your research papers sources and ideas. You wont need to do any more research on your topic. To do this, first determine who you think should know what you found out through your research and why you think they should know.
Some examples of re-vision projects in previous classes:

A student who researched treatment for anxiety disorders in children wanted to write directly to children with anxiety to help them understand and cope with what they were going through.
A student who researched language barriers in the dairy industry wanted to reach English-language dairy farmers to inform them about the benefit of becoming bilingual.
A student who researched the laws regarding gambling on professional sports wanted to reach sports fans to persuade them to support the legalization of sports betting.

After you have determined who you want to reach and why, you will select a genre (type of writing) that is appropriate for the audience and purpose youve chosen. You can be creative here! You can develop anything from a website to a brochure to a letter to an essay whatever allows you to get across the content to your specific audience.
For example, the students above made these choices:

In order to reach children with anxiety to help them understand and cope with what they were going through, the student wrote a children’s book.
To reach English-language dairy farmers to inform them about the benefit of becoming bilingual, the student wrote a brochure.
To reach sports fans to persuade them to support the legalization of sports betting, the student wrote and recorded a podcast.

Whichever type you choose, the content should be the equivalent of about 2 pages of information.

Selecting Content
The text for part 1 will be significantly shorter than your research paper so you will need to select the information and ideas to include. To do this use your understanding of your audience context and purpose as your guide. What information and ideas will be most relevant for your new audience and for your new purpose? Consider your context and what your audience is likely to already know — these are things you can refer to but don’t need to write in detail. Consider which information is most important for your purpose — don’t introduce bias into your writing by leaving relevant information out but leave out details and ideas that are not important for your audience to understand in order to accomplish your purpose.
Format Decisions: Finding and Using Models
Use the models you identified and the things you learned through the Genre discussion to make decisions about the style of your text. You do not need to copy everything as is from your model but use models to understand what your audience will be expecting. You should meet enough of their expectations to make your writing familiar and easy to read. Consider the vocabulary used, the appearance on the page, the use of images, and the ways of referring to sources, among other stylistic choices made by the authors of your models, in order to make your own stylistic choices.

Part 2: Authors Analysis
This analysis should be one to one and a half pages. It is not a formal essay, but it should be edited and proofread. In this analysis, explain your thought process in developing the text you wrote. In other words, explain how you used the model as well as your understanding of your audience, purpose, context, and topic in order to determine what should be included in the text you wrote and what it should look like.Your analysis should incorporate your answers to the following questions.

What is the audience you chose?
What is the purpose you chose?
What is the context in other words, what kinds of things do you think your audience is used to seeing/hearing/reading about/experiencing regarding your topic?
How did you choose a model to help you think about how to design your own text?
What did you choose?
What did you learn by analyzing this model?
Explain the choices you made about your vocabulary, tone, visuals, organization, etc. based on the audience, purpose, and context?
