paper should be on a philosophical topic, “white ignorance by charles mills”. and then it needs to be connected to a current/moral/social issue. PAPER NEEDS TO BE “LEVEL 3” (explained below). 

here are some guidelines on choosing the topic: 

“The problem is that this is not obviously an instance of white ignorance. Ignorance in the relevant sense involves either lacking beliefs or having false beliefs. This is partly speculation on my part, but it seems to me highly unlikely that the relevant members of the Trump administration genuinely lacked or had false beliefs about how likely the people in the countries banned would be terrorists, given the sophisticated government intelligence sources available to the Trump administration. It is more likely that the relevant members of the Trump admin had accurate beliefs about such likelihoods but strategically lied or gave misleadings statements about them for political advantage. Furthermore, unlike the Belgian burning of records, the travel ban did not have the intended effect of suppressing information. So, while what the Trump admin did might be reprehensible and maybe even outright racist, it was not clearly an expression of white ignorance. 

This is a general problem I’ve seen with the potential topics you’ve mentioned in this area. Governments often have strategic reasons for deliberately making false or misleading statements to justify their actions. Consequently, that such statements are made is not good evidence that they are sincere and so reflective of a mental state of ignorance on the part of those who make them. (Indeed, it is characteristic of liars that they are not ignorant of the falsehood of what they are saying) 

Where white ignorance seems to properly come in with this topic has to do with how so much of the public believed this purported justification without question, in spite of (I’m assuming) easily available evidence that it was a bad justification. I think if you focus on examining a practical question about this particular phenomenon, it would result in a paper that better links up with the theory. ”  (
