Need Help With – Psychological Characteristics of Peak Performance Custom Paper Help

Week 5
Application of Knowledge (AOK) 20 points
Chapter 9 – Psychological Characteristics of Peak Performance
Due Date: This assignment needs to be submitted in Canvas by Sunday at midnight (PST).

This  question will have you focus on two perspectives of peak performance or  best work in your sport, job or teaching area. The first part will ask  you to focus on what you once thought were the key ingredients for peak  performance or reaching the potential to do ones best work. The second  part will be on changes you now see after building your knowledge of  Sport Psychology / Mental Training. In both responses, state your sport  psychology background information that you initially provided in the  week 1 assignment will have an impact on your answers.

Part 1

Based  on your past knowledge of sport psychology and general sport  motivation, list the top 2 factors you most often attributed to your  team’s/group’s success or peak performance. For each factor provide a  short description as to why you felt this way or what past experiences  helped you develop that reasoning. Then do the same for factors that  helped the individuals on your team/group reach their best or peak  performance. There can be similarities in the two answers but would not  have to be identical and the why can also be different for each factor  also. I would like you to set it up using this format.

Group Factors:
1. Factor for Success Why or Past Experience that leads to this conclusion
2. Factor for Success Why or Past Experience that leads to this conclusion

Individual Factors:
1. Factor for Success Why or Past Experience that leads to this conclusion
2. Factor for Success Why or Past Experience that leads to this conclusion

Part 2

Now  we fast forward to what we have recently discovered and for some with a  more extensive sport psych background it may not be all that new. I  want you to list 2 new or enhanced (could be similar to Part 1 but with a  different why) factors you now see as critical to peak performance for  your team and individual athletes. Again provide a why but this time it  should be based on what you have gained from a better understanding of  peak performance

Week 5 – Application of Knowledge

Chapter 9: Psychological Characteristics of Peak Performance

Sport Psychology Background:
When I began coaching, my understanding of sport psychology was very limited. I viewed peak performance almost entirely through a physical lens, believing that success was determined by talent, effort, and tactical execution. I had not yet learned about the mental or emotional aspects of performance. Most of my early perspective came from personal playing experience and observing competitive teams where the strongest and most disciplined players tended to succeed.

Part 1 – Past Perspectives

Group Factors

1. Strong Team Chemistry
Why/Past Experience:
I believed that teams performed their best when everyone had strong personal relationships and worked well together. On teams I played for, our highest level of play seemed to happen when everyone liked each other, supported one another, and communicated well. I thought that strong social bonds alone could carry a team to peak performance.

2. Detailed Strategy and Game Plan
Why/Past Experience:
I assumed that having a clear, structured plan from the coach was essential for success. I had been part of teams that executed specific plays and tactics effectively, and this often resulted in winning. I thought the key to team peak performance was primarily about discipline in following instructions.

Individual Factors

1. Natural Talent
Why/Past Experience:
I used to believe that the most talented athletes would always rise to the top. On almost every team I saw, the most naturally gifted players stood out and delivered big performances, which led me to think talent was the main ingredient for individual peak performance.

2. Hard Work and Discipline
Why/Past Experience:
I also believed that an athlete’s willingness to work harder than others was the biggest factor in success. Players who stayed after practice or pushed themselves the hardest usually improved the fastest. This reinforced my belief that effort alone led to peak performance.

Part 2 – Current Perspectives After Learning Sport Psychology

After studying Chapter 9 and gaining a better understanding of the psychological characteristics of peak performance, I now see that mental skills and emotional regulation are just as vital as physical ability or effort. Peak performance depends on preparing both the mind and body.

Group Factors

1. Collective Mental Toughness
Why:
I’ve learned that teams perform their best when they can stay focused and composed under pressure. A group’s ability to maintain confidence and recover quickly from mistakes allows them to sustain high performance. Without this mental toughness, even talented teams tend to crumble during adversity.

2. Shared Purpose and Intrinsic Motivation
Why:
Rather than just following a coach’s plan, the best teams are driven by a shared sense of purpose. When each member is intrinsically motivated and deeply connected to the team’s goals, their effort and commitment are much more consistent. This internal drive builds trust and unifies the group.

Individual Factors

1. Emotional Regulation and Focus
Why:
I now see that the ability to control emotions, anxiety, and distractions is crucial for peak performance. Even the most talented players underperform if nerves get the best of them. Techniques like breathing, self-talk, and mindfulness can help athletes maintain the focus needed to compete at their highest level.

2. Confidence Through Mental Preparation
Why:
I have learned that confidence is not just about talent—it comes from mental preparation. Visualization, positive self-talk, and setting achievable goals help athletes believe in their abilities, especially in high-pressure moments. This confidence directly contributes to reaching their peak performance.
