Please write a 600-800-word op-ed (an opinion piece) exploring one of the concepts discussed in weeks 10 to 13. A definition of what an op-ed means and how to write one can be found here. Students will be asked to choose a magazine, blog, newspaper or other vehicle of communication and write the op-ed according to the editorial policy of that vehicle and its audience. The instructor recommends that students submit their choice to the instructor’s approval before starting to write the piece. If the op-ed written is good enough, the student could eventually submit it for publication in the vehicle chosen. That would be a great way to get started with public sociology engagement!
