Respond to Steven

I believe that the reporter had every right to ask this question and it is a fair question to ask as the constitution can have some areas of interpretation causing disagreements from both sides of the political spectrum. Nancy Pelosi’s press person’s response regarding the question not being serious seemed to be an attack on the group that asked the question due to their right-wing association. I think it would have been in her best interest to respond in a professional and articulate manner. What concerns me most about Pelosi’s view on this matter is her view on “unenumerated powers.” According to Kattenburg (2009), Pelosi says, “As many students of high school and college civics classes know, Article I of the Constitution contains the “necessary and proper” clause, which endows Congress with unenumerated powers that are needed to carry out its expressly delegated powers.” My question to Nancy Pelosi is how would you define necessary and proper and unenumerated powers? There should be a very fine balance when it comes to enforcing power on individuals. The very heart and soul of the constitution is to protect the people from tyranny and to promote liberty. Pelosi fails to incorporate the bill of rights into her reasoning and justification for the enforcement of delegated power. Interestingly, the tenth amendment gives powers not specifically designated to the government, to the states, and the people (Online Library of Liberty, 2022).  The Online Library of Liberty (2022) mentions that the tenth amendment doesn’t give power to the people on specific powers designated to the government, but more so to those powers which aren’t specifically stated in the constitution. This is a very important amendment and should be considered by Pelosi when she is responding to the public on the power of the government designated by the constitution.
