Specifically, you will choose one social institution (e.g., the workplace, family, education, government, or religion) and consider how it contributes to the formation of societys values. You will describe a current social issue (e.g., inequalities, discrimination, etc.) related to the social institution and choose a theoretical perspective to describe the issue. Then, you will describe a potential solution to the social issue.

For this Assessment, you will write a 3- to 4-page essay. Before writing your essay, prepare by doing the following:

Choose one social institution (e.g., the workplace, family, education, government, or religion) and consider how it contributes to the formation of societys values. Consider some potential solutions to the social issue. What has been your experience with the social issue within the context of the social institution you chose? What might you recommend to the social institution for resolving the issue?
Conduct research to learn more about the social issue you have identified. Choose 12 resources from the Walden Library or from a reputable website about the social issue you identified. Reputable websites are those that are maintained by established organizations (e.g., American Sociological Association). Articles from websites should include an author and not be based on opinion. Wikipedia is not an acceptable resource.
Your Written Response should reflect the criteria provided in the Rubric and adhere to the required length. This Assessment requires submission of one (1) file. Please save and name your file following the format SC1008_ firstinitial_lastname (e.g., SC1008_ J_Smith).

Describe the social institution you chose and how it contributes to the transmission of societys values.
Describe a current social issue (e.g., inequalities, discrimination, etc.) related to the social institution you chose and use at least one theoretical perspective (functionalist, conflict, or symbolic interactionist) to describe the social issue.
Using your sociological imagination, describe a potential solution to the social issue. Explain how your understanding of the complex relationship between social institutions, social needs, norms, and values has helped you identify the solution you chose. Justify your solution with a reference to at least one resource. Be sure to cite your resources.
