Synthesis Essay: Social media has totally reformed the students life

Situation:
A literature review combines both summary and synthesis to provide an overview of the research on a particular issue. 
 
The more important aspect of a literature review is synthesis.  To synthesize means to discuss more than one thing at the same time.  With the literature review, you will put your sources in conversation with one another.  Instead of simply listing and providing summaries of the texts you find, youll consider multiple texts at the same time by organizing them according to theme or issue.
 
There are two important things to note about this genre.  First, you must have a thesis that makes a claim about your sources (this claim should go beyond the simple idea that the sources say different things).  The thesis will 1) make a claim about a particular problem or issue and 2) describe how each of your sources approaches this problem or issue.  
 
The synthesis should demonstrate an interaction between your sources and examine how these sources correspond to the problem/issue youve chosen.
 
Task:
Your task is to write a literature review in which you summarize, analyze, and synthesize at least three sources that you have located in your independent research about your topic. These sources must be academic (peer reviewed journal article, book from an academic press, published report). A literature review collects, describes, and synthesizes work that has been published on a specific topic. Literature reviews are typically included in the opening sections of journal articles, book projects, and dissertations. A literature review is not just a descriptive list of materials or a set of summariesit must be organized around an inquiry or theme that you wish to explore and discuss.
 
 Your literature review should include:
1. an introduction:
 – that defines your topic, research question, and organizational pattern (how you selected and categorized the sources)
2. body paragraphs where you summarize your sources and make connections between them based on shared themes, similar viewpoints, and significant differences
3.  a conclusion that offers your own response in the form of recommendations for further research, questions raised by your review, and/or an evaluation of the sources
 
Evaluation Criteria:
      Your thesis is strong and clear.
      You demonstrate an understanding of the sources arguments, claims, and evidence.
      You  provide sufficient summary, analysis, and synthesis of the texts.
      You paraphrase and quote the texts where appropriate.
      Your own perspective is at the forefront of the paper.
      Your paper has been edited for grammar and formatted correctly (MLA format).
