This Paper’s Topic
Chapter 5 presents historical information about selected groups of Asian/Pacific American as well as current demographic information. The chapter content identifies myths and stereotypes applied to Asian/Pacific Americans as well as discusses group identification terms.  It also covers communication styles and key issues in law enforcement related to Asian/Pacific American ethnic groups.

Learning Goal
To identify and discuss positive policing strategies law enforcement agencies can utilize to work effectively with the Asian-American American community.
Assignment
As the number of Asian/Pacific immigrants increase in many U.S. cities, police departments are struggling to recruit the Asian/Pacific officers needed to adequately serve their communities. While the nation’s diverse Asian/Pacific communities vary in their cultural practices, beliefs, and languages, many Asian/Pacific immigrants share common barriers when it comes to interactions with law enforcement.
Although the video link was authored in 2008 by the Chicago Police Department, listen to the challenges members of the Asian-American community discussed as it pertained to law enforcement. Ask yourself if you believe the challenges still exist today. In particular answer the following questions:
Many Asian/Pacific American community state that LE doesn’t serve their community effectively. What were some of the challenges discussed in the video? Do the challenges still exist today?  
Identify two (2) challenges impacting the Asian/Pacific community and how you as a LE Manager would address the challenges.
Identify two (2) Asian/Pacific community organizations L.E. agencies should work with in efforts to improve relationships in their community.
Identify two (2) strategies you believe LE agencies should implement in efforts to increase the number of Asian/Pacific applicants. Explain why you believe the strategies would be effective.
