REPLY TO:The three leadership traits of the ones listed that I feel are the most important are integrity, charisma, and Innovative. It is rare to find a leader that can truly embody more than one or two of these traits, most good leaders will grasp parts of these traits but find it difficult to completely reflect more than just the surface level.
Integrity is the foundation for successful leaders. Without trust you are forced to transform from a leader into a dictator or a ruler. Integrity is earned through action over periods of time and must be maintained as a priority for a leader.  It reflects who the leader is and what his or her true values are. Leaders that achieve long term success place their integrity both personally and professionally above every other trait. Integrity takes time to earn but can be eroded in an instant.  An old mentor of mine early in my military career told me something that would stick with me. Im not sure if this was his saying or something that passed to him, but I found it to be as true of a statement as any other in all the leadership classes I attended over my 20 years of service. The words were Integrity is like virginity, it is important to some and irrelevant to others, but once it is lost it is gone forever and cannot be undone.  
Charismatic leaders are those rare few that can get their guys to run through a wall and come up looking for another. In the military there is a chain of command that is followed and like it or not you will get led by someone who outranks you, they use either legal or traditional authority to base their power.  The charismatic leader doesnt rely on rank or authority they rely on getting buy in from the others in the group and motivating them to get the most out of them. Two examples of this kind of leader are Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler.  This type of leadership must be built on a foundation of integrity as it has the potential to turn the individual into a cult leader.
Innovative leaders are the ones that can think outside of the box and find new and better solutions to problems. They are willing to evolve and adapt to new technology to gain advantages over their adversaries.  They are willing to accept certain levels of risk to achieve goals that others would not attempt. These leaders are the ones that fundamentally change warfare with new tactics and technology.
